‘12/24 Karol Bagh’, a prime time show on Zee TV, was an endearing story of a middle-class, Delhi family. It was a critically acclaimed show and also has many awards to its credit. The show garnered popularity not only in India but also enjoyed worldwide popularity in UAE, UK, USA etc.
At a time when all of Hindi satellite television production found its hub in Mumbai, this series created a landmark by setting up the complete production in the real locale where the story was set – New Delhi. This demanded a lot in terms of location scouting, hiring and training actors, technicians and vendors. This pioneering effort from Sunshine set a trend and gave confidence to the television world in terms of exploring newer destinations for shooting.
The show was a real portrayal of a middle-class family. This was a family that stayed together inspite of the challenges thrown at it and emerged victorious by the end of it all. The Indian audience instantly connected and related to this phenomenon.
Apart from this, the story of this series touched upon some serious issues like teenage pregnancy, eve teasing, ageing parents, class divide, date rapes etc.
The series was also one of its kinds for creating archetypical Delhi characters that are etched in audience’s memories even today.
