Neerja is born and brought up in Kolkata’s red-light area, Sonagachi. Her mother is a sex worker who tries hard to safeguard her from this world. On turning 21, Neerja is ‘bought off’ by a respectable family to pose as their mentally ill son’s wife. The journey illustrates Neerja’s resolve to pursue her love and establish a respectable identity in society!
